| Thallus thin to thick, plane, continuous or dispersed-verrucose to verruculose, yellowish white to yellowish grey or greenish grey, epruinose. Soredia absent. Prothallus not visible or whitish grey. Apothecia immersed when immature, becoming sessile, 0.2–0.7 (–1.1) mm diam.; disc pale orange to yellowish brown, not or slightly pruinose; margin concolorous with the thallus, thin to thick, entire, sometimes verrucose. Cortex hyaline, ±gelatinous, inspersed with small crystals, distinct, 10–15 µm thick laterally and 15–25 µm thick basally. Amphithecium with large crystals insoluble in KOH (pulicaris-type). Parathecium hyaline, 10–15 µm thick, with numerous small crystals insoluble in KOH. Epihymenium hyaline or yellowish brown, c. 10–15 µm thick, with numerous small crystals (chlarotera-type); pigmentation rapidly soluble in KOH. Hymenium and subhymenium hyaline. Hypothecium hyaline or yellowish to pale yellowish brown. Paraphyses sparingly branched and thickened apically. Ascospores narrowly ellipsoidal, 9.5–13.5 × 5.0–7.0 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K+ yellow, C–, Pd+ pale orange; containing atranorin (major), gangaleoidin (major), chloroatranorin (minor), chlorolecideoidin (minor), leoidin (minor) and norgangaleoidin (minor). |  |
